TOP-DRAWER GIGS: This Week's Top Picks

In honour of our new Sydney Gig Guide, we'll be picking out some of the must see gigs for you on a weekly basis. Yet again, this week does not disappoint. There's a few international faves in town, including the Allah-Las (US) and The Animals (UK), but today we're here to focus on the shit hot local talent gracing this town. (Yes, 'shit hot' is still a thing.)

FOREST HALL + BACHELOR PAD - The Malborough Hotel - FREE (Thursday, 18th May)

Sydney trio Forest Hall make noisy garage rock to let loose to. Their latest single 'Most People's Lives Are Boring' is likely going to be a little chaotic live. The slacker vocals keep things in line but the rest of it is full guns blazing. Support comes from fellow fuzzed out rockers, Sydney's Bachelor Pad.

DARCY BAYLIS + GUSSY + POST MOTEL + CHANEL - Oxford Art Factory - $10 (Friday, 19th May)

Volumes monthly is back with its May edition and it's a wonderful mix of some of Australia's most unique talent. Melbourne singer/producer Darcy Baylis creates evocative electro full of gliding synth and complex beats - it's going to be a beautiful live experience. Support comes from Gussy (one of our favourite emerging Aus artists), Post Motel and Chanel. Woah.

BLEEDING KNEES CLUB + THE PINHEADS + WHITE BLANKS - Hudson Ballroom - $13 (Friday, 19th May)

If you're up for more of a mosh than club vibes on Friday then Bleeding Knees Club is for you. The garage rockers are celebrating the release of their new 'Chew The Gum' EP and things are going to get sweaty. Support comes from Wollongong's wild ones The Pinheads and White Blanks.

RETIREE + LOW FLUNG - Freda’s - $10 (Saturday, 20th May)

Sydney/Melbourne trio Retiree released a brilliant new single 'Jan' just last month. Sticking to their deeply rhythmic style, it's another unique track that will go down a treat live. Saturday is set to be a night filled with dreamy vocals and plenty of dancing. Support comes from the audio visual extravaganza Low Flung, Lauren Hansom and Donnotella. Get to it.
