TOP-DRAWER GIGS: This Week's Top Picks
Vivid Live 2017 kicks off this week and they’ve literally brought their A-game. This year, Vivid will be hosting over 400 different music gigs throughout Sydney - a massive boost for live music. It’s going to be bizzay. You can scan through all of of them in detail in our Sydney Gig Guide.
Choosing just a few shows to highlight this week was a tough one, simply because there’s too much to choose from. High-fives to those who nabbed tickets to Julia Jacklin and Methyl Ethel’s sold out shows. There’s a whole lot of incredible local talent on display and we think you should get your eyes and ears around the below.
AINSLEY FARRELL + ALDOUS MONROE + LADY LYON - Leadbelly Newtown - $12 (Tuesday 23rd May)
Earlier this month, Ainsley Farrell released her ‘Dark Hours’ EP. It’s a stunning collection of songs that highlight her haunting vocals and blissful songwriting ability. Do not miss this intimate performance. Support comes from the soulful sounds of Aldous Monroe and Lady Lyon.
BUOY + JAALA + GC OCONNOR - Cake Wines - FREE (Friday 26th May)
Kicking off the Cake Wines Vivid curation, ‘Pink Noise’ will feature some of our favourite Aus talent with visuals from Rosie Whelan. BUOY’s unique sound is even better live, her lyrics are evocative and her beats make you want to move. If that wasn’t enough, there’ll also be a solo performance from the enthralling Jaala and support from GC OConnor.
MOODY BEACH + THE GOODS - Freda’s - $10 (Saturday 27th May)
Another Vivid experience, Sydney label Personal Best will be showcasing some of their best talent. Moody Beach make hard-hitting dream pop that will likely see them playing much bigger venues in the not too distant future - big talent alert. Support comes from equally engaging tune makers The Goods and the Physique & Harold S Modern Funk Experience, plus DJ sets. Get down, get down.
JADE IMAGINE + NOIRE - The Golden Stage - FREE (Saturday 27th May)
Last but not least, the beautiful sounds of Jade Imagine will hit the Golden Stage with another carefully curated Vivid gig. Her debut EP ‘What The Fuck Was I Thinking’ was released via Milk Records just last month. Support comes from the dreamy sounds of Sydney's Noire. Now that’s so beautiful it’s literally a free therapy session you’d be mad to miss.
