TOP-DRAWER GIGS: This Week's Top Picks

There’s a lot happening this week, including a night where some lucky individuals get to chill on a rooftop listening to Boy George DJ - that man’s musical knowledge is A+ and I refuse to discuss otherwise.

Sunday is pretty jam packed too with all sorts going on for the long weekend, including Curve Ball at Carriageworks which will see Confidence Man, Client Liaison, Safia and more take to the stage.

Make the most of this lovely place feeling so alive at VIVID time. Hop to it. Full Sydney Gig Guide (and tickets) here.

GAIKA + KOJEY RADICAL – Civic Underground - $45 (Thursday, 8th June)

London's Gaika Tavares is causing some serious noise on the international scene at the moment. Signed to Warp Records, his politically driven mashed up rap, pop, grime and reggae is the sound of the future. Support comes from Kojey Radical (UK), Kimch Princi and more.

TOM STEPHENS – The Golden Stage - FREE (Thursday 8th June)

Just in case you hadn't already noticed, I'd like to remind you that Sydney's folk music scene is alive and well. Tom Stephens is part of the that v healthy/sonically stunning community and he's bringing his beautiful beats to the Golden Stage on Thursday.

BETTY & OSWALD + SUNDOWN STATE - Hotel Steyne - FREE (Friday 9th June)

Deafen County faves Betty & Oswald are taking their delightful pop-rock north to Manly this weekend. Spread the joy I say. Support comes from fellow Sydney psych-rockers, Sundown State

FOOD COURT – The Chippo Hotel - $13 (Saturday 10th June)

Are you prepared to get sweaty this Saturday night? If so then Food Court are the band for you. Get down to the basement at The Chippo and get wild to their infectious garage rock.

KIRIN J CALLINAN – Oxford Art Factory - $25 (Saturday 10th June)

Now, if you'd prefer to get a little weird AND wild, well Kirin J Callinan is your man. He's back in Australia to celebrate the release of his new LP 'Bravado' - judging by what we've heard so far, it's going to be a goodie.

PRETTY CITY + PARTICLES – Brighton Up Bar - $8.50 (Sunday 11th June)

There's many ways to spend your long weekend Sunday, and we're confident that spending it with Pretty City will not disappoint. The fuzzed out Melbourne trio are back in Sydney to preview songs from their forthcoming album.
