Sydney four-piece WAWAWOW create frenetic, fuzzed out psych-rock that’ll chew you up and spit you out before you even know what’s hit you. Built on distorted vocals, gritty guitar and eccentric arrangements, it’s a speedy ride that you’ll want to buckle in tight for.

Regulars on the Sydney live scene, WAWAWOW’s far-out psychedelia has already landed them support slots with The Growlers and fellow Aussie trippers, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets. Yet we were first wowed (sorry, couldn’t help myself) by their unique sound last year with their standout single, ‘Fluoro Fitzwilliam’. Today, we get first dibs on their latest track ‘Sabre The Toothtiger’ which completes their three standalone single releases, and paves the way for an LP release later this year.

Recorded in their DIY home studio and mixed by Dane Burge at the University of Westminster, their new single is a little more funky and a little more aggressive than the last. But if there’s anything you can count on, with WAWAWOW things never get too serious (please see proof here). The band said of the new track:

“We were keen to give this single a bit more of a cheeky attitude as well as the raw grit we love so much - something that we’ve been finding difficult to pull off in recordings, but usually evolves on its own during a live set. Dane helped us record the synth and drum sounds in midi to give them a more punctuated and aggressive response, and multi-tracked the vocal and guitar tracks for a broader sound to capture the reverberating insanity we tend to indulge in on stage.”

If you’re keen to witness their on-stage insanity, then don’t miss the official launch of their brilliant new single on Saturday 28th April at The Town Hall Hotel in Newtown. With support from Light Entertainment and Wart Gunn, this is a night of chaos you don’t want to miss.

Until then, please thrash about to the beautiful beast below:
