PLAYLIST: Best Noise July 2019

Not sure about you, but it is with relief that July is behind us. Without sounding dramatic, there were two solar eclipses and Mercury spent the best part of three weeks in retrograde. In short, there’s slightly more doom and gloom in this playlist and you can blame that on the stars, not me. OK, back to the music, and what a month July was for new music.

Some brilliant sounds coming out of the UK including Squid, Dry Cleaning, and Black Country, New Road. From the USA, Angel Olsen returned with a new sound, as did the much loved DIIV and Iggy Pop.

Back home in Australia, DISPOSSESSED released an incredibly important album ‘Warpath Never Ended’ - a heavy metal album that harnesses the anger of a generation of Indigenous Australians who are yet to be properly acknowledged, with the pride and dignity they deserve. Powerful listening.

Then there was a whole heap of exciting punk from locals CIVIC, EXEK, Ill Globo and more.

It’s a long playlist this month because there was a lot of good music to capture. Please see some additional highlights below.

IN THE FEELS: ‘Body By Crystal’ by Spike Fuck + ‘Ashes to Ashes’ by Jenny Hval.

ON REPEAT: ‘Instant Pace’ by B Boys + ‘Magic of Meghan’ by Dry Cleaning.

MAKE YOU MOVE: ‘Peak Hour Traffic’ by The Living Eyes + ‘The Revolution’ by Ross From Friends.

LOCAL LOVE: ‘Warpath Never Ended’ by DISPOSSESSED + ‘Selling, Sucking, Blackmail, Bribes’ by CIVIC.
